I have no problem with protesters. I’m a big believer in civil disobedience, and it’s made heroes out of people like Cesar Chavez, MLK, and Gandhi for me. I appreciate and respect people taking action to support their stance on whatever the issue.
With that said, I really, really, REALLY get frustrated by abortion protesters. Not all of them, but yeah, pretty much all of them. I totally respect their right to protest abortion and be pro-life. I’m not going to try to change anyone’s mind on abortion, which is just a tough issue to tackle, no matter what your belief is.
However, if I’m taking a little girl to her soccer game and she has to see posterboard-size photographs of dead fetuses, then I have a problem. That happened back in 2002, and that was really turned me off to pretty much all abortion protesters. It continued with supposedly “pro-life” terrorists killing doctors and bombing clinics. That made sense, didn’t it?
But, since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to avoid pushy, annoying, irritating abortion protesters.
Until today.
There were a few protesters out today, with signs that said “Abortion Kills Children”. I didn’t have a problem with those signs because at least they didn’t have photos of dead fetuses. I understand that it’s not what you say, but how you say it that has an effect on people driving or walking by really quickly. I was fine with their signs.
But it didn’t stop with the signs.
I was coming out of a store and a lady tried to hand me a pamphlet. I said, “No, thank you.” She tried to hand it to me again and, again, I said, “No, thank you.” Seeing that I wasn’t going to take it, she said, “Abortion kills children!” in a real shitty way…like I personally aborted every child since Roe v. Wade (I haven’t). I had tried to be nice. I had to tried to be understanding. I had tried to move on. But, she wanted a reaction, so she got one.
Her: “Abortion kills children!”
Me: “I KNOW. THAT’S THE POINT!”
She was horrified. I was satisfied. The interaction was over.
best thing ever....better response than that.
really long time....posted something on my personal blog
